Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Powering Past Coal Alliance today re-launched the Bloomberg Global Coal Countdown with a host of new data and analysis on the state of global coal. Now with granular country-level data and analysis on coal, the tool is an open-source resource for anyone interested in how to phase out coal.

Ember has provided data and commentary for coal power generation for each country on the tracker, alongside insights from other leading experts and organisations.

Heading into COP26, making coal history is a critical priority for the world. That can’t happen without comprehensive, open data to guide action. Today’s update to the Coal Countdown pulls together these critical insights from across the many expert organisations working to make the challenge of coal phase out visible and comprehensible.
